Champion Middle School

Message from Mary Walker, CMS Principal update: 2010-05-19

Welcome Parents and Community Members to Champion Middle School.

Welcome to Champion Middle School. I am confident that your child’s four years with us will be educationally sound.

Middle school is a time of change. The workload and social adjustments are greater here than the elementary level. We have in place many “safety nets” to guide your child through the next four years smoothly. For example: our code of conduct , schedule of classes and activities offered are all appropriate for this age group.

Our entire staff is dedicated to professional development, so we keep up with the research for education. Our motto for staff and students alike is “We are too good not to get better.”

I personally extend an invitation to stop and see me anytime with any concerns.

If you have any questions concerning the middle school, please contact the principal’s office at 330 847-2348.

Principal

Middle School Years… update: 2007-12-06

The development of good study skills is the highway to your goals, whatever they are. And no matter how hard you have to work or how much adversity you have to overcome along the way, the journey will indeed be worth it.

How do you make goal setting a part of your life? Here are some hints I think will help you:

  1. Be realistic when you set goals. Don’t aim too high or too low and don’t be particularly concerned when (not if) you have to make adjustments along the way.
  2. Be realistic about your expectations. An improved understanding of a subject you have little aptitude for is preferable to getting hopelessly bogged down if total mastery of the subject is just not in the cards.
  3. Beware the Goldilocks Conundrum despite the previous two points, you can be overly realistic—too ready to sigh and give up just because something “isn’t in the cards.” There’s a fine line between aiming too high and feeling miserable when you don’t come close, aiming too low and never achieving your potential, and finding the path that’s right for you.
  4. Concentrate on areas that offer the best chance for improvement. Unexpected successes can do wonders for your confidence and might make it possible for you to achieve more than you thought in other areas.
  5. Monitor your achievements and keep resetting your goals. Daily, weekly, monthly, yearly—ask yourself how you’ve done and where you’d like to go now.

Character Education update: 2008-10-27

The Champion Middle School Character Education Committee are reviewing the pillars of character to coincide with the colors they represent. Blue is trustworthiness, yellow is respect, greeen is responsibility, orange is fairness, red is caring and purple is citizenship. Each month one of the pillars of character will be posted on the students' lockers as a remeinder to use the pillar throughout the month.

Assignment Books update: 2007-01-01

Parents are encouraged to review the assignment books daily. The students are required to write assignments and class work in them. Also, when a student leaves a classroom for any reason, the teachers write a “pass” in the assignment book. Parents are able to see how often their child is out of the classroom and where they are going. Also, all disciplinary actions are documented in the assignment books.
